The pack bench & keyboard shortcuts

The pack bench is where a picked order becomes a printed label. It is built for hands that stay on the keyboard: an experienced packer can clear a whole batch without touching the mouse.

Keyboard shortcuts

• ← / → — move between orders in the queue.
• ↵ Enter — print the label and advance to the next order.
• Tab — move between fields in the pack panel.
• Esc — close the panel.

Boxes and live rates

Add a box row per parcel: length, width, height, weight, and a quantity for identical parcels. If the variant has dimensions on file, the first box pre-fills with them. Products flagged as ships-in-own-box expand to one box per unit automatically.

As dimensions change, live quotes AusPost and StarTrack are live; Team Global Express is beta.beta.

You can also verify the delivery address against Google or the AusPost address database before printing. The result sticks to the order, so a flagged address stays flagged when you reopen it.

Partial fulfillment

Shopify held stock is respected. If an order has units on hold, the pack panel shows only the shippable quantity and calculates weight and dimensions for that portion. The held items ship later — you do not pay for a label sized for stock that is not going in the box.

The pack–pick interlock

Printing a label locks that order's units in any open pick batch — a picker cannot un-pick what you have already packed. Voiding the label releases the lock. Locks are computed live from active shipments, so there is nothing to clean up manually.

Scan to verify (optional)

If you want a harder check than eyeballs, turn on scanning in Settings → Scanning. At the bench it becomes scan-to-verify: scan each item's barcode and OrderOps checks it against the order before the label prints. Three modes — off, warn, or require. Require blocks the label until every line scans (with an audited skip for genuine exceptions); ad-hoc orders and returns are exempt. There's also scan-to-open: scan an order number or tracking barcode and the pack panel jumps straight to it.

Ship several orders together

When the same customer has more than one open order to the same address, the pack panel offers to combine them into one parcel. You book once, every combined order carries the shared tracking number, and each still gets its own fulfilment against its own Shopify order. Domestic Australian shipments only; voiding the label releases the whole group back to Ready.
